VPN Connection

Hi

I am trying to set up a VPN to my windows 2000 server. I
have a netgear adsl router and have opened the ports on
the router and forwarded them to the server. the ports
are the default ports set by netgear.

I cannot however connect to the machine.

Can anyone tell me what ports are used for VPN access to
a windows 200 server?

Thanks

Rob

The only port required for PPTP is tcp port 1723 . But a PPTP VPN
connection will fail if anything in the path blocks GRE. Check the router
specs for GRE by name or by protocol number (it is IP protocol 47). If you
can't find them, look for PPTP pass-through mode. Check the Netgear site for
details.

Ports needed for a VPN connection -
PPTP - TCP port 1723 and IP protocol 47 [GRE]
L2TP with IPSec - IP protocol 50 [ESP] and UDP 500
L2TP without IPSec - UDP 1701
