I have a new Dell laptop running Win XP Pro which I connected to 2000 advance
server via vpn from my house. I take computer to office (not where 2000
advance server is located) I connect to internet via Bellsouth westell router
but when acessing VPN computer can not connect althought there are 5 other
computer running win2000 pro that connect without any problem. I turn off
firewall in XP pro computer and still can not make a VPN connection. After
trying Dell support, they do not support VPN issues, I was stranded with
Bellsouth which they are very slow to act.

This computer has wireless connection and I found a Belkin pre-n connection
which I connected wireless to and with XP firewall on try to connect to VPN
and IT WORKS!

My question is: am i using the wrong router at this location or Bellsouth
has to upgrade my line to handel Win XP firewall. Do I need to open any
additional ports? which ones?

Normally the firewall blocks only inbound traffic. So it may be nothing to do with firewall. Do a simple test. Can you telnet port 1723?

the blue header of windows indicates telnet IP#. is this means am connected?
Thanks, again.

Yes, you have good connection to the VPN server. What's the error code when VPN? Then check this link for troubleshooting,
