Vote to banish WGA, WPA, & WGN

Let's let Microsoft know how much we as paying customers dislike being
treated as criminals! Because that is what effect these anti consumer
technologies like Product Activation, Genuine Advantage, and Genuine
Notification have on paying, loyal customers! And they have little to no
effect on stopping the pirates! Vote for this suggestion if you agree.

WPA, WGA & WGN are anti-consumer technologies which should be removed from
Microsoft products!

Unfortunately, the voting requires a login to Passport and this
is not an anonymous way of doing things. The alternative method
of voting is to boycott Product Activation. There is no rule that
anybody has to buy a PA-protected product, such as Windows XP,
Office 2003, etc. It is voluntary and there are many alternatives.
This includes Windows 2000 Professional if one does not want to
go the Linux route. Sure, the Microsoft pundits report that there
are millions upon millions of Windows XP have been released...it
is just that, a statistic since there are probably millions upon
millions of XP-equipped computers that have been also reloaded
with other OS.

If one wants to discourage WPA and WGA, start deluging the OEM
dealers that WGA indicates to be selling illegitimate software
in their systems. The OEM's will get the word back to Ballmer
and associates pretty fast.

Humm, feeling guilty?

I don't know about our vote wrangler down below :), but I don't like
being treated as guilty when I'm innocent.

Bill Gates is the new Red Queen.

Why do you feel like you are being treated as guilty? It is after all, a
personal interpretation. ;-) It's no different than a highway patrolman
radioing in your license plate while following you down the highway.

From what I understand, s/he only does that if you failed to signal,
failed to slow down, or otherwise failed to use safe driving habits...in
which case, you deserve to be in trouble.

If s/he is doing it otherwise, then it's either boredom or profiling,
the former being unlikely, except in small towns and the latter being
generally illegal.

It's not a personal interpretation. It is a fact that the intended
purpose of WGA is to battle piracy. And the method being used is the
invasion of the consumer's privacy and the theft of his bandwidth.

Or suspects the plate may not be legit? ;-)

Okay, so why, exactly, does he suspect the plate isn't legit?

I've been stopped by the cops a few times in my life. For speeding, of
course--and I always took the ticket without whining. But also for:

....driving a '29 Plymouth that he wanted to have a closer look at. Then
he asked me for a date, and was mightily distressed to learn of my
marital status, and

....then there was the time I was 13 years old, walking down the street
to the grocery store, and two on-duty cops stopped me because they had a
bet: one bet that I was 19 and the other bet that I was 20. They were
very upset when I told the truth, and they insisted I produce
ID...which, of course, I did not have. I gave them directions to my
grandmother's house instead, suggesting that they make inquiry of her.

I have many more stories like the two above than I do about bona fide
traffic stops, so I think we need to find another analogy, dear. This
one is wearing very thin, given my general experience with law
enforcement. ;)

I hear you, but apparently there has been a bunch of illegitimate
numbers that have been applied, and they are determined to weed them out
as they show up.
