Volume is dirty; happens just sitting there

Windows XP SP2 fully patched.

Already swapped out hard drive with brand new (cloned it).

Run chkdsk on boot and windows comes up, chkntfs says volume is clean.

Rerun chkntfs a few minutes later, still clean.

Rerun chkntfs an hour or so later (with windows just idle at desktop), now
shows dirty.

Any ideas?

thanks.

It may be a problem with what you cloned. The disk is new and in good
shape, but the filesystem you cloned onto it may have issues.

If you can do a quick install to another clean drive, does the problem
recur?

Don't know.

We were trying to determine if there is an answer to the problem or if that
is our next step.

In light of the lack of answers (google'd extensively) and responses here,
I'm guessing that that may be our next step.

thanks for the reply.
