Volume icon keeps disappearing on reboot

Windows XP SP2, up to date...

Every time that I reboot I have to place the volume icon in the system tray
by going to Control Panel | Sounds... it always has the check in the
checkbox so I uncheck and Apply, then re-check and Apply. That solves it
until I reboot.

I found a message subject for this problem on this NG but it has apparently
"expired"...

MS KB for Windows XP SP2 produced no hits for "volume icon".

TIA for any help on this one...

MVP Stefan Blom on another NG pointed me to Google Groups for another
problem -- and there I also found an old message that made suggestions
including reference to SysTray.Exe being missing from the Startup tab under
MSCONFIG... and a Kelly's Korner tip for saving registry settings... My
problem is now solved it seems.

Great news, Paul and thanks for the feedback. It will help others. :o)
