Volume Control in System Tray

I'm frustrated over a somewhat small issue, but it's
important to me. I have Windows XP Home. My PC is about
one year old and is a Dell 4550. The PC always had a
sliver colored speaker icon in the system tray, which
controls the volume of the Turtle Beach Sound card. The
silver colored speaker icon used to allow you to slide
the volume control and hear the difference in the setting
volume. Ever since I re-installed Windows XP Home and
installed the newest MS approved Santa Cruz driver this
feature will not work. Turtle Beach tells me the driver
must be downloaded from Dell's site and that the blue
color of the speaker icon in the system tray is correct.
I've gone to Dell's site, but can't find a driver for the
Santa Cruz sound card that will give me the silver
colored speaker icon back with the volume control that
can be heard. HELP.

Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices, Volume tab. Put a check mark in the
"Place volume icon in the taskbar." By the way, this isn't a driver.

Courtney, I've done as you suggest before. When I place
the volume icon in the taskbar and click the slide bar to
change the volume I only get a "ding" sound from the PC.
Previously when I slid the volume control the sound would
vary so you could stop at the desired volume.
