vlookup appearance

i am using vlookup to set up a register.i wish to have the empty cells that
contain vlookup formula NOT to show #ref or #n/a untill i need to enter a
data from a list
i wish to use this as a way to input new entries and vlookup adds the
corresponding data from a list
