VLC Media Player, "Complete" Download

T

Todd

Hi Todd,

I downloaded "vlc-2.1.4.tar.xz" from the first FTP in your list. It is
18.7mb. Now I have to locate my multi format extraction program.
I wonder what the ".xz" represents?

In response to another person(s), I use Media Player and
FLVPlayer. Both do a good job, but some of my computers are
old with "slow" CPUs such as 500-700mhz. Playing a .FLV video(s)
on them doesn't "work" well. Note: I have a program (YTD, YouTube Downloader)
that converts the format from .FLV to WMV. In this format, they play fine,
but the video file(s) size is greatly increased.

Again Thanks, John

Hi John,

You somehow got a hold of the Linux version. This is the
correct version:

wget ftp://ftp.videolan.org/pub/videolan/vlc/2.1.3/win32/vlc-2.1.3-win32.exe

Hi John,

You may have also got a hold of the source files.

Look for ".exe" at the end of the name: vlc-2.1.3-win32.exe

Hi Todd,

I downloaded "win32/vlc-2.1.2-win32.exe" as you suggested (above), but it
is not "complete". I use FireFox and "it" expects IE 7 or later plus an
internet connection when I tried to install it.

FYI:

My brother told me about VLC, but he did not download it. I was
going to send it to him after I try it out.

UPDATE:

I have decided to abandon VLC. I have other resources to view
videos. My only interest was to see if I can watch .FLV videos on
my older, slower (500 - 700Mhz) computers.

Interesting. Just out of curiosity, what
version of IE does your computer have?

My VLC doesn't require IE at all as I am
running it on Linux. Wonder why VLC would
make that an issue with Windows.

Do you have the error message kicking around?
I think I would like to report it on VLC's
bug tracker.

Hi,

My brother recommended VLC Media Player (from Videoland.org), but
when I downloaded it, then try to install it, I have to have IE 7 or later
and be connected to the internet. Note: I use FireFox browser.

Does anyone know where I can download the "complete" program
so I can install it just like other applications I downloaded in the past?

Thank You in advance, John

I hate those damn "download installers"(downloaders). I'd suggest going
to oldapps.com They have all the older versions of popular software,
but they usually have the latest ver too. And they are all FULL
downloads. I like their site because it's quick and to the point. Not
all the crap many sites have, which make you click thru 3 or more pages,
then enter codes and presonal info, while trying to trick you into
downloading something else, not to mention all the ads......
When you go to oldapps.com, you just pick the category, then the file,
and click download. I highly praise that website. It's also handy if
you want an older version for something like Windows98 or 2K, or want a
less bloated (older) version of something like Firefox.

ALL downloaders are prone to downloading malware. I refuse to use them.
If you got your downloader off of brothersoft.com, BEWARE, that site is
highly infected with malware. Look them up in a search engine and
you'll see just how bad they are.....
