Hi Guys and Gals
I am running Vista Home Premium 32 bit.
Virtual Machine says that Home Premium is not a supported operating system ,
but I installed it and seams to run ok. (I think)
I have XP Home (OEM copy) installed on another hard drive on the same pc.
Not dual boot , I chose the operating system from the bios.
When I install an operating system to the virtual machine do I have to
install from the install CD or is there a way to copy it from the hard drive
it is installed on.
The reason I ask this is because I can't activate the same system twice on
the same pc.
Can some one shed some lite on how I should do this .
If I can get this figured out I will uninstall xp from my other hard drive.
Thanks for any advice.

Hi Carl,

You are right, you can't install it twice. MS provided Vitrual Machine 2007
so
everyone that wants to can buy many, many copies of Vista, instead of one.
Every
OS you run in a virtual machine has to be purchased seperately, or you are
violating MS's
license agreement.

Not true. Vista Ultimate allows you to install multiple copies. Up to ten
or something I think.

there is a way to backup and then restore in to the VPC.
not sure of the exact procedure.
you might ask in the VPC news groups.

using the microsoft news server
msnews.microsoft.com
refresh your list and search for
VPC.

You are supposed to be able to do this using Acronis True Image Workstation
along with Acronis Universal Restore. The problem is that recent build of
Universal Restore do not seem to work.

http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/products/ATICW/universal-restore.html

There is a messy way to do it by using the 'repair' option when booting from
the CD in the VM, but you have to ask about that in
microsoft.public.virtualpc
