Visual VWD config

I am trying to administer a site that is sitting on a network share on
our web server.
When I try to use the admin function with VWD, I get an SQL error that
the network path is not supported.
If I try to use the "remote site" connection, I get an error that share
point services is not installed correctly.

How can I use a mapped drive to admin the site with the tools provided
with VWD?

To use the FP extensions or SharePoint you have to access the site via http://... not a network
path, etc.
