Hi, I want to start using visual source safe. I know this probably insn't
the best group but I figure the members have used it. My question is about
installing it. Our admin told me he could give me a share on a server
running Windows Server 2003 Appliance Server edition which is a NAS. On NAS
servers he says you can't install things like SQL Server, web servers, etc
they are just for network shares. Is this acceptable or do I need a server
that is running some visual source safe services or some executables?

If I can use the NAS what do I install on the client machines.

Keith, have you looked at your other options besides VSS? VSS seems to have
a bad rap. (Plus the 2005 version will be out with VS.NET 2005). We use
SourceGear Vault, which uses a SQL Server 2000 backend. It is free for a
single user.

From what I remember from VSS. When you do the "network install" it creates
a client-setup folder in that directory that you run on each workstation.

HTH,
Greg
