visual/sound feedback for Caps Lock

After installing new Word software I no longer get feedback when I hit the
Caps Lock key.

I don't remember what was the last version of Word that had a CAPS
indicator in the status bar. It isn't there in Word 2000 or any of the
later versions. So I'm not sure what visual indicator you're referring
to.

Most keyboards have an LED that indicates the Caps Lock status;
wireless keyboards don't have lights because they'd drain the
batteries, but they put a popup on screen for a few seconds when the
Caps Lock changes. If your lights or popups are gone, check your
keyboard and its driver.

As for an audible signal, that was never a function of Word, but it's
built into Windows. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel >
Accessibility Options and check the box for ToggleKeys.

tHANKS, Jay. I got the audible signal back, but still no visual. The screen
used to flash whenever I pressed the Caps Lock.

This is also in the Accessibility Options. On the Sound tab, there is a
SoundSentry item: "Use SoundSentry if you want Windows to generate visual
warnings when your system makes a sound." The options are "Flash active
caption bar," "Flash active window," and "Flash desktop."

You're welcome. You forced me to discover something I didn't know.
