Visual C# without XP SP2 ??

Is there a version of Visual C# or Visual studio i can use to learn C#
without having to put XP service pack 2 on my PC (it's a work PC and we are
currently only authorised SP1)???

SP2 came out almost 2 or 3 years ago now. Tell your IT dept. to get up
to speed and install it. PreSp2 support for WinXp has ended or will be
ending shortly.

AFAIK you can install VS 03.

The problem maybe that you will have to buy it, as there was no free edition
back then

The current free edition VS 05 express requires SP 2.

Check out Charles Petzoids web site. He wrote an IDE for C# called
Key of C#, free download. Not as nice as VS2005 but works well.

That won't help the OP, this requirement relates to the V2 framework not the IDE.

VS2003 ran OK under SP1. You won't be able to run VS2005 without SP2.

For some of the other responders: SP2 is not always a walk in the
park. It brought its own problems. And I don't think its firewall
alone is a reason to use it. The most compelling reason, IMO, is that
some other software (like VS2005) requires it.

If you have software that still hasn't been brought up to par to run on
SP2, it should be dumped. Its been my experience that there aren't
really any problems going to SP2.

The most compelling reason is not that software will run, its all the
security fixes. Its not 'just adding a firewall' to windows.
