Can you please tell me how to move OE email from computer A running XP
to Outlook of Computer B running Vista? I tried importing email to
outlook at my laptop with vista but failed and it kept saying that the
folder is used by someone, please advise. I used to use OE and feel
very weird using outlook, learn from others that we can use window
mail at vista, is it similar to outlook express and can I import email
from OE to this window mail and how? Thanks

Windows Mail is somewhat similar to Outlook Express, but not similar
enough for everyone to be happy with it. For example, it can't handle
the HTTP protocol used by some mail providers such as Hotmail.

First check if you have an icon for starting Windows Mail, and if you
don't, do this to create one: On your desktop, double click on
Computer, then C:, then Program Files, then scroll down the list to
Windows Mail and double click on it. Find WinMail.exe if it appears
on the resulting list, or WinMail otherwise. Right click on it, then
click on Create Shortcut, then approve putting it on your desktop,
then close the window created above. Double click on the new
shortcut when you want to start Windows Mail.

See here for how to import your old messages:

Bring along the .wab file if you also want to import your old
contacts. Put all the files you want to import into the same
directory on the hard drive of your Vista computer - a
subdirectory you've just created under your Documents
directory is a good place. Make sure all these files except
possibly the directory are read-write instead of readonly
before you tell Windows Mail to import that entire directory.

If this does not import your old contacts, start Windows
Mail, click on Tools, then Windows Contacts, then Import,
then Windows Address Book File (Outlook Express
contacts), then Import, then find the .wab file and click on it,
then Close, then close the contacts window.

Since you've started Outlook on your Vista machine, it has
probably taken over as the default email program for that
machine. If so, someone else will have to help you set
Windows Mail as the default email program again.
