If you want to be able to join a domain at work, you'll need Vista
Business or Ultimate. (Enterprise will do it too, but that's available
only in bulk.)

You might provide a few more details about what you need.
Do you have a laptop that you want to take to work?
Or is this a desktop that you wish to access your work computer from home?
Do you have a domain at work?

Is the network at work a domain? If so, you'll need to upgrade to
either Vista Business or Ultimate.

That doesn't matter (other than that it suggests it's a domain).

Any of the "Business" Vistas, or Home Premium should network. Still,
everyone networks these days. I'm astonished Home Basic won't.

So why didn't you get that, then? Probably your co would give you a
copy for nothing!
Ask first, and you wouldn't need any.

It will. The issue is that there are two kinds of networks--workgroups
and domains. *All* Vista versions will do workgroups, but only
Business, Enterprise, and Ultimate will join domains. Since he's
asking about his work network, it's almost certainly a domain, and
that limits which Vista versions he can use to Business, Enterprise
(not a choice for his single computer), and Ultimate.

I should have knows this, but had forgotten about domains. Thanks for
the clarification.
