Vista Word not compatible with normal Word???

I have Vista on my new laptop that I use at home.

For my job, I have to prepare Word docs, at home, and email them to my work
email/computer.

The problem is... when I try to open the docs that I have typed and saved at
home with Vista... my computer, at work which is not Vista, cannot read
them... it looks like Windings and symbols!

So, how can I make my computer at work compatible with my new Vista Word
from home?? I do a lot of work from home... and I need both Words to work
together. I'm a teacher... what can I say? haha

PLEASE HELP! Thanks in advance.

You are probably saving the documents at home in the new Word 2007 .docx format. If that's the case, you have two options.

1. Set your Word 2007 at home to save in the older format. Press the Office Button (upper left corner), select Word Options at the bottom of the dialog, select Save, and there set Save files in this format: to Word97-2004 document (*.doc)

2. Get and install the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats at:

then install this on your work machine.

Option 1 is easier.

ps - this is really a question for the Office groups. It's not a Vista problem. See microsoft.public.office.misc in the future.

Hello heather,

You have to save them in old format on the vista machine and it will work,
choose save as and then 97 - 2003 documents.
