Go to a restore point after you boot from the DVD.

Hey Sean

Might be a dumb question but .. are you *sure* you're booting from the DVD,
when you get the second 0xC0000221 error?

If the machine is configured to boot from the hard drive first, you can put
the DVD in the DVD drive, reboot, and the machine will boot normally - but
still from the hard disk, not from the DVD! I have made this mistake myself,
so ... anyways, check in the BIOS that you are booting from the DVD first.

If you are booting Vista from the DVD and you get a 0xC0000221 STOP error,
even before you get to the Repair options, then there may be a fundamantal
problem with your hardware: bad memory, incompatible BIOS, or the like. In
that case, you better tell us more about what kind of machine you have.

My bad and I'm sorry, I'm posting on 3 computers at the same time.
You may have a hardware failure, nothing to do with software or Vista.

Frank,

Kudos for admitting an error. (Something -never- seen from those you parry
with on a regular basis.)
