Vista won't start

I'm not a computer guru, so I'll try to explain what's happening.

Windows Vista won't start. I can get it to load in Safe mode, all safe
modes. I hit f8 key, and I've tried every option. It won't load in anything
but safe. When I tried to 'repair', it said no errors found. When Vista
starts to load, I can see the microsoft status bar logo, I can hear the small
chime play, and then I get 'no signal' on my monitor and the screen goes
blank. The computer is still running, but I can't see anything.

I tried the error checking option in tools. System repair using the CD shows
no errors. I tried system restore, but it won't load for that either. I run
Windows Vista Home Premium, it's a brand new computer.. only a few weeks old.
The system 'crashed' when my husband tried to switch users. I did not install
anything new, hardware or software wise.

Any ideas? Any kind of help is appreciated.

If it's a brand new computer, call the place where you got it for help. If
they can't or won't help you, the best thing you can do is start over. Boot
off the DVD and do a clean install. Sometimes, even though this is a
drastic measure, it is quicker in the short term to cut your losses, start
over, than to spend many hours trying to figure out how to save or repair
what you already have. Hopefully you have backups of your data.

If you can get it to load into Safe Mode, but not normal mode, it could be a
Video Graphics Card failure. In Safe mode or VGA mode, windows loads basic
drivers to make your graphics work.

Are you using DVI? Mine occasionally does the same thing. Try this: After
you here the chime, count to 20, type your password and press enter. When I
do this I end up at the desktop with a message, "...video driver has failed
and was restarted..." or similar.
