Can't start vista anymore

Hi

I just switched on my Dell Dimension 9200 pc to find that Vista (home
premium)won't load! All I see is a black screen.

I have tried starting in safe mode but just get the 'starting windows files'
screen and nothing happens. I've also tried starting in other safe modes but
the same thing happens.

I've selected the 'repair computer' option and run the 'startup repair' but
the tool says it is unable to apply the repairs. I also tried to restore the
pc to a previous point but got a message saying that the disk has errors
which must be fixed first. I tried running the disk scan tool which got
stuck. Now when I try and run the system restore I see no restore points.

My pc was fine yesterday and I have not installed or uninstalled any
software or hardware since - other than the automtic Vista updates.

Has anyone got any ideas? Help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Well, you tried a lot of recommend suggestions, the next step is to contact
Dell support about this issue if your PC is still under warranty.

there's a disk repair program called SpinRite from grc.com, if it's
important enough for you to spend some money. Or maybe you know somebody
who already owns it. I believe that GeekSquad or one of them can use
that software, too.

I would guess there are other similar programs. I remember also that
years ago, I had to run a third-party scandisk from a floppy. Using the
builtin didn't work.
