Vista, What an Amazement, with Office 2007 Integration!!!

Hi,

I had a thread a few weeks ago regarding my IE7 hanging up and stalling
under Windows Vista. Since that time, I have performed hours of
troubleshooting (which time I don't have). The original IE 7 problem started
once I installed Office 2007 (upgraded from Office 2003). I started with
no-add ons, then reset IE7, then got rid of startup programs, and on and on.
I went back to Office 2003 and all things starting working very well again
with IE7 under Windows Vista. I did an image backup, and then installed
Office 2007 one more time. Bamo - once it was up and running, IE7 went south
again. I played with no add-ons again, etc, but it was a pain in the bum,
and I gave up. Restored my image, and all is working well again with Office
2003. It appears that the culprit is Office 2007 integration on my Vista PC.
Has anybody else noticed this type of problem? I have two other Windows XP
PCs with IE7 and Office 2007, and no problems whatsoever. On the record, I
do hate Vista, because I have had other problems with it, as well (System
Restore has never worked - more hours of trouble shooting). I would never
pay money to upgrade my other two Windows XP machines. to Vista I hope it
goes away and they continue to support XP for a few more years to come.
Thanks for letting me vent. It would be nice to know that others are having
the same issue I am so I don't stand alone in this crapola. Thanks!

Any Symantec (Norton) or MacAfee product(s) installed by any chance on the problem computer. System Restore not working along with Office2007 also affecting IE suggests the latter.

Thanks for the replies. I just recently installed my Norton IS 2008 upgrade,
but I first removed my Norton IS 2007 and Save and Restore 2.0 with the
Norton Removal Tool. While I had no Norton programs on my system, I tried to
run the system restore. It still got hung up. I have done this in safe
mode, and I have done an upgrade repair process, etc, and Norton was not in
the loop, so I am mystified there. As far as my IE7 hang up, to go from
working with 2003 Office to stalling with just a 2007 Office upgrade, and
nothing else being added or changed in my system also mystifies me that there
is some connection with maybe something else and whatever Office 2007 loaded.
My son has a Vista laptop with Office 2007 installed, and no real problems
there either. While I have had Office 2007 installed, I ran IE7 with no
add-ons, and did a IE7 reset. It seems to work a little bit, and then goes
south again. I have done all the virus and adaware checking and Hijack this,
but I couldn't tell enough of what Hijack this found to be concerned or not
with stuff on the system.

With all the time spent trying to fix the issues, it just might be better to
backup all your data. Wipe the system clean. Do a fresh install of Vista.
DO NOT put any Norton product on your machine. Use AVAST for antivirus, do
the antivirus update, then install Officed 2007. I did this and everything
works well. There could be hundreds of reasons why your configuration is
messed up and it would take longer to figure out then to start over. Once
you start over, you know what is on your system, it is clean and will
probably work better for you.

I know that isn't what you want to hear, but it might be the best solution.

Good advice. This has crossed my mind. I guess I will wait until Christmas
break so I have some time to play around with it. Thanks!

Why read crappy posts from Tiberius when there are other intelligent posts
out there?
