Vista Vista and more Vista

I

Innes

As a frequent lurker and occasional poster I would like to share some
thaughts about Vista home premium;

I see a lot of people very disappointed in this new O.S. for various
reasons, some are valid some are plain problems with DRIVERS and or OLD
hardware.
I build my own systems now for over 10 years, I always try to use upgradable
hardware, not always top of the line but within reach of my client's
budgets, as for now I'm building systems with the following components;

MoBo, Asus p5b standard
2 Gb Kingston ddr 800mhz ram
1 Western digital SATA drive 250 GB,
X-FI Extreme audio
Intel Core 2 duo 6400
Nvidia GeForce 7900 GS
Logitech executive wireless keyboard/mouse combo

Vista runs like a charm as a fresh install, no hickups no driver issues it
just runs smooth, even the 64 bit edition has no complaints with this setup,
No i'am not soliciting business I just wanted to add some positive reviews
about Vista when ran on the right and compatible hardware. So far my system
here at home is up for 25 days, no re-boots no problems at all. If I had to
address a item that definitely needs improvemnt then it would be the rate of
data transfer between attached usb or firewire drives other then that I
think that this release is one of Microsoft's best O.S's ever.
Just my 2 cents!

What series MB?
BTW, yours is not the typical experience, even for new hardware.

Pete;
I never said that my experience was typical, just said that I on this
specific hardware combination am able to runVista very smoothly and without
hickups or driver issues. MoBo is Asus P5B.

I'm with you 100%. Upgradable systems are my way of doing Busniess as well,
however I'm building even more budget systems so its a tiny issue with Vista
compatibility from a performance standpoint. I countered this with simply
using the latest techniqs so that the customer could swap the hardware if
needed. Aka I'm not using old CPU sockels but the latest available, yet
putting budget parts in there. Many customers seems less interested in
upgrading than saving money so it seems like the right thing to do. Feedback
appriciated. :I

I got the same here, some customers come in and see a "base" system running
with the components I mentioned and then see the price and options they have
to customize it. I always inform them that spending a little more (
$75-$150) will save them a lot in the long run due to the ever changing
services added on the internet and in the office environment. I can only say
I had no problems with mentioned setup at all, it just worked out the box
and as is. I did of course some fine tuning as everyone would do but thats
it.
Hope you will have and keephaving the same positive experiences as I have,
because after reading some of the rants and complaints I feel sometimes that
I have the only system that is working correctly in this group. No malicious
intent to posters with their problems !

How is it that you know this?
I hope to god you don't make that assumptions from what you see here?

Nvidia GeForce 7900 GS, often used for gaming is not supported in SLI.

NICE board.
Don't bother with SLI though if you use it for gaming.
Vista has no support for SLI.
Nope SLI has no support yet.
The board is nice and very responsive to people who want total control with
overclocking, this is best done through the bios, don't bother using the
software tools included on the MoBo driver cd.

Didn't buy it for the futuristic SLI. Nope just bought it due to it's total
compatibility with Vista native drivers!

Hi,

I'm using almost same parts as yours: P5B + Core2Duo 6400 + nVidia
7600GT.

But, I have a one big problem about sleeping and hibernation.
When I try to sleep my computer, my computer cannot go into sleep
state,
just come back to normal window! So does hibernation: after saving
data to
hard distk, my computer does not turn off the power. My computer just
restarts and resumed.

I'm wondering whether you experienced such problem.

Thanks.

No I don't have that problem, but something's to keep in mind,
NIC, please check settings, some NIC's are defaulted to allow device to wake
up. same goes for bios, and last but not least,
If you have a wireless keyboard/Mouse combo made by..................yes you
guessed it Microsoft then that might be the culprit.

Disagree with that one,

I am running Delta Force Extreme, no problems what so ever, Half life, no
problems what so ever, Quake, again no problems and all games report running
at higher frame rate and shading then in XP. Same with Myst, Doom, Etc.
Your turn!
