Hi

my question is probably similar to alot of others but since i have emailed
microsoft twice with no sign of reply ive decided to try here.

I have two computers one is my old crappy stopgap computer that i got while
i was saving up to build the computer im typing on now and the other is my
new dualcore 4600+ I wont go into full details but needless to say when i
built my new comp i installed Vista onto my new computer without removing it
off my old computer. when i booted my old computer again recently and put it
back on the network to copy across some stuff that i urgently needed i got a
msg saying two computer were using my CD-KEY

any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated

Remove Vista from the computer you don't want to use it on, then use
telephone activation for the one you want.
One license, one computer.

Hi,

Does that mean you have the same copy installed on both the new and old
computer?

If so, the message is correct and only copy (in terms of product key) can be
installed on one computer and if you must keep the old computer for backup
or whatever purpose, you need to another product key.

However, you don't necessary need Vista for a backup computer, and XP will
do the job fine. PS: There are some tweaks for XP and Vista to be in the
same network but this is another issue and you can easily find tips and
solutions in this and other related Vista newsgroup.

Good luck!

Well, you have to decide which computer you want to keep Vista on. You can
not have it on two computers without running into the problem you now have.

Take it off your old computer (suggested). If your new computer has problems
with activation you will have to call to activate and explain the details.
You will then be cleared to use Vista on the new computer only. Install
Windows XP, or the operating system of your choice, back on your old
computer.
