Transfer Hard drive to new computer?

How to transfer old hard drive to new computer?
My old computer (Dell 4600 Desktop) died. I just purchased a new Dell "XPS"
420 with Vista Ultimate 2006 installed.
I have installed my old hard drive, from my failed computer, in an external
USB enclosure. I can see the files from my old hard drive on my new computer
but can't figure how to transfer them to my new computer?
My new computer has an Easy Transfer program but it seems to assume that the
old computer being transfered from is a working computer which mine isn't.
Is there any way I can retrieve my old hard drive information in it's
original working format and settings? I do have all the programs installed on
my new computer that are associated with my old hard drive data.
Any help and/or advice would be greatly appreciated.

You do not need any special software,
just copy the data over using windows explorer.

Note: some of the data that were in My Documents *might* be inaccessible.
If that's the case you will need to take ownership

It's covered by Windows help

So just copy them to where you want them on the new machine. Use
drag-and-drop or copy-and-paste or whatever copy method you're
comfortable with.
