VISTA Upgrade Failed.

My brother had an XP Pro computer. Rather than do an upgrade of the
existing XP Pro (that was bloated from several years of use), I
installed Vista Home Enhanced as a new installation thinking that I
could just type in the key once Vista was installed. Well (for what
are now obvious reasons) this doesn't work.

After asking questions in this forum, I found out that the only easy
way around this is to reinstall Vista as an upgrade to the existing
Vista installation.

He and I (remotely) tried that last night. I watched the installation
up until the first reboot (when I got disconnected) and everything
seemed to be working correctly. It past the first set of compatibility
checks, copied over all of the files.

Unfortunately this morning when he got to his computer it complained
of compatiblity problems and uninstalled the upgrade.

1. Is there a log file that itemizes the compatibility problems that
cuased the upgrade installation to fail? If so, where?

In the current situation, I can't activate and I don't get a telephone
number to call to try and get this resolved over the phone.

Thanks for any help

I did find the log files. The ...err.log file had the following
entries. I am not sure if it is meaningful. The other log file was 4Mb
is size. I am not sure what I should be looking for.

From the setup file, this seems to be pertinent
