Vista Upgrade Advisor warning on Window Messenger 4.7.0.3001

Guest

I just used Vista Upgrade Advisor and it found known application that will
not work or minor compatibility issues. Window Messenger, Nero 6 Ultra
Edition, Ati Desktop component.

Window Messenger:
This Program might have minor compatibility issues after upgrading to Window
Vista. For more information, go to the vendor's website. no link provided or
information on how to remove it. I don't use this window messengeranyway.

How do i uninstall it before installing Window Vista? or Will Vista remove
Window Messenger Automatically?

I recommend you make a clean install to ensure stability. Backing up your
stuff will be a bit of a hassle, but it will be worth it in the long run.
Also, the new Windows Easy Transfer thing works really well.

In those cases where something needs to be uninstalled before Setup will
run, Setup will stop and list the things that need to be uninstalled first.
Many components (like Windows Messenger and ATI Desktop Component) will be
removed during the upgrade. Nero will have to be uninstalled before you can
proceed so uninstall it before you start.

You need to check with ATI on 9200 support.

The advisor also suggested that i get Vista premium even tho i have a Ati
Radeon 9200 128mb 8x AGP and it also suggested that i replace the graphic
card after installing Window Vista. Everything on hardware seem to be ok
except the graphic card warning that it will not display aero. Will i be
able
to use the Vista Media Center with Ati Radeon 9200 with my TV tuner/fm
radio.

From my experience, that's unfortunately a big N O
It won't work
I couldn't find any install programs on the Recovery Partition

DCR
| If i do i clean install will i still be able to install the HP driver and
| software that they might provide. Doing a clean install also means losing the
| HP Window XP Recovery Partition on the harddrive.

Have you checked the Asus site for Vista drivers?
In some cases people have been able to get tuner cards to
work with XP drivers (with limited functionality sometimes,
but personally I do not know for this card.

Have you checked ATI's site for a Vista driver?
128MB is the minimum for Aero Glass, But I believe
that you would also have to have 1GB system RAM.

Sorry, I can't give you specifics.
I'm sure some one in here can better help you.
Sometimes it helps to post more/specific info:
mobo\model nos\etc.
Good luck.

The answers the upgrade advisor gives aren't necessarily tied to the
hardware but to the answers you gave during the interview. If you answered
all the right questions with the right answers it will suggest Premium
Edition because it will "meet your needs" - even if your system is not Aero
compatible or whatever.

I suspect you are thinking of the Anytime Upgrade questionaire which is for
uprading one Vista edition to a higher one. The OP is using the Vista
Upgrade Advisor to determine what he needs to do before upgrading from XP to
Vista. Two different things.

Last time I looked, the upgrade advisor didn't recommend versions; thus my
assumption that the gentle reader was talking about the other one. ;-)
