Vista Updates

Vista has been telling me to do an important update, and when I've tried to
do it, it has given me nothing but error codes. The first error code was
80070246 and the update stopped at 13%. I tried again after a weeks time,
and now the code i'm getting is error code 80071A30. I cant find this code
explaination anywhere. Anyone have any idea what this code means....or how i
can fix this POS operating system? Oh, and I've tried restoring back to
previous updates, and now restore wont even work.

Thanks but that didnt help one bit. I've already been thru the knowledge
base, and a search for the code on the microsoft website. As bad as XP
was....it seems Vista is even worse, and I didnt think that was possible.
Anyone else with any ideas?

In many cases, you need to disable your AV and/or AntiSpyware software for
the patches.
I have had to download the patches manually in some cases and install them
offline.
It's a PITA, but usually works.

This worked for me when I had a problem with an update. (Taken from
Microsoft article ID:193385)
Clear the contents of the WindowsUpdate folder
1. Click Start, click Programs, and then click Windows Explorer.
2. In the left pane, double-click the Program Files folder.
3. In the left pane, double-click the WindowsUpdate folder.
4. In the right pane, click the V4 folder, click Edit, and then click
Invert Selection.
5. Press DELETE, and then click Yes to confirm.
6. Open the V4 folder, then in the right pane, click to select the
IUHIST.XML file, click Edit, and then click Invert Selection.
7. Press DELETE, and then click Yes to confirm.
Note When you delete the IUHIST.XML file from the WindowsUpdate folder, you
clear the whole Windows Update installation history. Microsoft does not
recommend that you do this because you lose your record of previous
downloads. The steps in this section delete all your files except the
IUHIST.XML file.
