Vista Update?

R

Ron

I just got the following message, abbreviated to save space :

"Follow the steps in the Knowledge Base (KB) article to solve the problem
with Windows Vista. This problem was caused by Windows Vista, which was
created by Microsoft."

I downloaded the file but when I went to install it, I was informed that the
file did not pertain to my system. So, I am firs told that this file will
fix the problem but then told that the file does not pertain to my system.
What the hell kind of double speak is that? Oh, and even though I have never
used MS Tech support, when I went to email them, the webpage said I would
need to pay $59 to get help for a problem CREATED by MS! WONDERFUL SUPPORT!

Vista is the SLOWEST, MOST FRUSTRATING system I have ever used. Had I known
it was going to be this problematic, i would have had winXP put on my new
laptop.

Hello Ron.

Did you download the correct file, although you didn't provide a URL to the
article I suspect it had links to both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. If you
downloaded a version of the patch that isn't applicable for your system that
is the type of error I'd expect.

As you didn't buy Windows Vista from Microsoft in the form of a retail box,
your hardware manufacturer is responsible for support. This is how support
has worked for as long as I can remember and is a key reason why retail
versions are much more expensive than copies brought by system manufactures.

Assuming the hardware supports Windows XP there's nothing stopping you from
doing that.

Thanks for your quick response, Paul. Yes, it was the correct file. After
I left the message, i checked the MS updates on my system and it was there.
I was sure to download the 32-bit version. I guess I got the message to
download it because I continue to have problems being unable to 'hibernate',
shut down, and restart.

You are right. I forgot that I had purchased a retail copy of WinXP and
other MS software. That is why I got email support primarily for MS Money.

Yes, I could go back to WinXP but actually I have been thinking of trying to
set up a dual boot. not sure how to do that but I think I might give that a
try if I can figure out how to do that now.

Thanks again for you quick response.

Happy New Year!

Ron
