Vista wont Update! It just keeps searching, but never completes, never
stops! So no updates..Help!

Rename the SoftwareDistribution folder. (Because of possible folder
corruption or other errors.)
Click Start, Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service.
Click Stop.
Stopping the service will take a moment.

Rename the "SoftwareDistribution" folder:
a. Click Start, click Run, type %systemroot%, and then click OK.
b. Right-click the SoftwareDistribution folder, and then click Rename.
c. Type SoftwareDistribution.old, and then press ENTER to rename this
folder.
Create a new folder called "SoftwareDistribution"
Click Start. Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service.
Click Start.
Starting the service will take a moment.
Rerun Windows Update.

Not bad for a point and click GUI operating system, hardly point and
click that lot was it?

Well sometimes you see a post that makes you think...

Heres the background. I used to do a lot of database work with text,
just text. So having to let go and use mouse when a tab key would do it
is annoying. IE mouse became a nuisance as more and more database
programs etc needed mouse, there were no keystrokes available.

Now it the other way around, as more and more GUI stuff has become
available we have gone back to typing commands in the "Terminal Window"
like services.msc

So the mouse kbd / mouse kbd phenomenon gets worse instead of better...

You could do all of that using only the mouse without ever touching the
keyboard except to type the folder name(s) when changing or creating.
Some people just like to type stuff.

Linux has the same issue... if one must go beyond the GUI to configure
stuff... good luck... This stuff is -simple- compared to Linux command line
stuff. Way simpler...
