Vista Update causes limited connectivity

got a new PC (Vista Premium) and when it installs the updates about 15 of
them one of them causes it to not connect to the internet anymore...short of
restoring the system any way to fix it

What IP does the machine have when you go to the Command Prompt and enter
IPconfig /all?

Have you tried IPconfig /release and IPconfig /renew to see if you can get
the connection back?

Were any of the updates dealing with the Network Interface Card or possibly
the modem if the machine is using a dial-up connection?
