I've purchased HP Pavolion HDX9000 Notebook PC with Windows Vista Ultimate
64-bit pre-installed, Intel Core Extreme CPU X 7800 @ 2.60GHz, 4095 MB of
Ram, 2 X 250 GB Hard Drives with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 XT Graphics card.

1st, I'm finding many of my needed programs and USB hardwares not being
compatable with Vista. So I'm looking for a way to do this. When I try to
install it. XP set up is not able to detect the hard drives to install the
OS. I've been told I need to find the storage control driver and have it
installed on to a USB 3 1/2 disket drive when installing XP. Will this solve
the installation problem and where can I obtain a copy of it?

2nd, I was hoping this PC will be powerful enough to run Auto CAD 2008 with
fast 3D rendering operation tasks. Is it? If not, is it possiable to
upgrade it to do so?

Your informations will be greatly helpful.

1st thing to do is go to HP's site, and see if there are XP Drivers available
for that Model Number notebook.
If not, forget about installing XP.

I don't know if it's all of them, but there are few drivers for XP at hp.com
for this model.

Check with HP Support before doing anything! Installing WinXP on this
machine may violate your warranty and any service contracts!

Again, check with HP Support. Next time around, do this research before
purchasing a new machine.

Good luck.

Along with what others have said about the XP drivers for the machine, if
you can find them, have you considered installing a virtual machine and run
XP from there? If so you won't have to dump the Vista 64 bit you have.
