Hi Colin,
I tried to send this message twice but my newsreader says it is not available in the VPC Newsgroup.
Can you read it?Let me know?

the title is:
How can I install VPC 2007 beta on MCE
Hi,
For some reason my message says it is not available so I am resending it in this reply hoping it will get viewed.

I here that to install VPC on XP Media Center Edition 2005 needs a workaround to do it but I can't find out what it is.
Any help would be appreciated.

Seach on "XP Home," which is what most folks have asked about. Or "blocked"
since that is what is going on. Or simply ask the question, "How can I
install VPC 2007 beta on XP Home or MCE?" I haven't kept track of the
workaround because I use XP Pro and Vista, sorry.

Have a good day,

No, you showed up fine in the other group. I think you are seeing a well
known bug that reports a false failure to post. Are you using a web-based
newsreader?

Hi Colin,
No I am using Forte Agent 4.1 I can see all my other posts in this and other N/G's just can't see the VPC N/G postings I
made.
I don't know why? This has happened once before but only on reply's not on OP's

Hi Colin,
I can now see the messages. Don't know why I could before but still can't see the original ones I couldn't see.

With the full edition you may use the 32bit version OR the 64bit version of
the edition you are installing, but not both. With the upgrade edition you
must use the same platform that you are upgrading/migrating from. If you
are running a 32bit XP you can only upgrade/migrate to 32bit Vista. To
migrate from 32bit XP to 64bit Vista requires a full edition.

You could read the whole agreement
2. INSTALLATION AND USE RIGHTS. Before you use the software under a license,
you must
assign that license to one device (physical hardware system). That device is
the "licensed device."
A hardware partition or blade is considered to be a separate device.
a. Licensed Device. You may install one copy of the software on the licensed
device. You may
use the software on up to two processors on that device at one time. Except
as provided in the
Storage and Network Use (Ultimate edition) sections below, you may not use
the software on any
other device.

I read that to mean that I can't dual boot vista 32-bit and vista 32-bit (or
2 64-bit versions). The EULA has addressed how someone can use:
"Alternate Versions". "The software may include more than one version,
such as 32-bit and 64-bit. You may only use one version at one time."

Maybe I am not understanding. I am only pointing out that you can only have
one copy of the OS installed at a time. Either 32 or 64 as you only have
one license. Precludes any dual booting, even in a VM. You can of course
go between versions if you remove one before installing the other. There is
really no way to tell what Microsoft's activation process will do if you try
to go between versions.

Easy answer. Install them both on the same hardware and see what happens.
If it works, I would say that Microsoft agrees with you.

John, have you picked up on the fact that the Home Basic and Home Premium
edition EULA's say that those editions may not be used in virtual machines?
That is one of the oddist EULA provisions I have ever seen and one I cannot
see any justification for. I don't doubt that marketing decided they needed
one more item for differentiating the home from the business tracks for
pricing reasons but this one is kinda silly. To me it is enough that the
home editions do not recieve MS PSS support without saying you can't use the
home editions in a vm. I should think that if a user wants to spring for
the licence why not let him run it on a Kenmore washing machine if he wants
to?

I wasn't sure which editions were affected, but I had seen the VM
restriction in some. Thanks for clarifying.
