Hi Ramana,

Nope, no way back. You will need to reinstall cleanly as Vista Business. Or
purchase an Ultimate product key.

How do you install Vista without a product key? The key has to be entered
during the install routine; without it the install stops right there and you
can never reach activation. I can't imagine that a Business PK would allow
Ultimate to install. That would be like trying to use an XP Home PK to
install XP Professional. Also, if you have Ultimate installed, doesn't it do
everything that Business can do and then some? Why would you need to go back?
What am I missing?

Hi Mark,

Actually, you do not have to input the key during setup. You just click next
and the following dialog will allow you to chose which version to install
(if you enter the key, it determines the version so you would not have to
select one), as they are all on the same disk. If you chose a version other
than the one you have, your choices are to either later purchase the key for
it, or remove it after 30 days. If you choose the correct version, you can
simply enter the key later during activation.

Not the question of the key but of the Activation which you do not have to do for 30
days at which time the system will stop. When you install Vista and you input keys
activation does not need to be done for the 1st 30 days But during this time Vista
is restricted as far as installing Updates and other fixes and certain install .
When Activating and the wrong keys are inputted then it Vista will not activate and
system will shut when 30 days expire

Who told you that? It's not true at all. You can continue the install
without
entering the key. If you don't enter the key, another screen will pop up
asking what version of Vista you're installing (home, business, ultimate)
since it can't use the product key to determine that. In fact that's how MS
lets you do a clean install of Vista from an upgrade copy. First you
install
the upgrade copy and don't enter the key and don't try to update or
activate it. Then you reinstall over the first one but this time you DO
enter the key and activate it.

You can also extend the evaluation period from 30 days to 12 months by
entering a few commands if you need more time to try the software.

Thank you, Tom, Rick, and Peter. I didn't know that. This also explains
Ramana's situation. I'll keep this in mind if I ever need to reinstall Vista
on my media center. Thanks for the lesson.
