Vista Ultimate 64 Bit install

R

RAY

I recently purchased a Compaq Laptop. It is installed with Vista Home
Premium or some such.

I installed Vista Ultimate 32 on this machine, and never used the 64 bit disk.

Am I allowed to use the 64 bit Ultimate Disk on the laptop and upgrade it?

Also, this laptop has Works and not Word on it? Am I allowed to install
Word on more than one machine?

Why does MS have two word processing programs anyway.

Thanks,

Ray

Hi Ray,

It'd be either Home Premium or Home Basic.

disk.

Ultimate is packaged with both disks, your license and Product Key will work
with either one. Your license allows you to install either, but not both
simultaneously. And actually, any Vista license allows for this, but only
retail Ultimate has both disks in the package. For other versions you have
to order or exchange one.
Am I allowed to use the 64 bit Ultimate Disk on the laptop and upgrade it?

Yes, but not as an upgrade. There is no upgrade path from 32 to 64 bit. It
would have to be a clean installation.
Also, this laptop has Works and not Word on it? Am I allowed to install
Word on more than one machine?

Depends on your license for Word. Some versions allow for you to install it
on one desktop and one laptop for your personal use. If it was preinstalled
with the system, then probably not.
Why does MS have two word processing programs anyway.

Works uses Word as its word processor. The difference between Works and
Office is in the included functionality and additional programs like Excel,
Access, Outlook, etc.

You're welcome, hopefully this helps.

Make sure that your Compaq Laptop has 64 bit hardware before you
try to install Vista 64.
