Vista takes long time to shut down hanging process

c'mon. none of this personal attack stuff has any bearing.

PC mag says microsoft wants you to use the new hybrid sleep mode instead of
shutting down. It is very fast and is there partly to mask this slow
boot/shut issue But if vista was worth its bits and bytes this wouldn't be a
problem in the first place...bad drivers indeed!!

I set a regisry key to not wait long to kill aps that dont respond.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control]
set wait to kill time from 20000ms to 1000. OK, so I lose some data. better
than waiting for this dang dog to die.

The real problem is that Vista sucks. The frustration expressed above is not
at all unique. Microsoft has taken the view that they will force feed changes
in the way users interact with their machines and you are seeing the result.
Sure there are new and nifty things under the good but who gives a fart if it
makes the user experience worse. The user should be the boss not the damn
corporation. I found it funny for the mod to suggest that you should know
more about computers so you can trouble shoot. what a laugh. Ya might as well
go all the way then and go to linux. Don't do Mac, its just a screwed up
version of linux.

I just built an Ubuntu machine (kubuntu beta 8 with kde). test driving it
now. So far its such a breath of fresh air. I am planning to parition this
vista laptop and dual boot with kubuntu.

Its OK, let go of vista.........

I run Ubuntu 8.10, Win 2000 and Vista Basic on the same machine -- all
within Vista! Vista is intolerably slower. Go figure.

Feel free to pontificate.

I find that a long shutdown occurs after MSFT updates and also when a
new application has been installed. This did not happen with XP.
