Looooong shut down times?

So, booting up only takes about a minute or so, around the same as XP had.
However, shut down can take up to 5 minutes, with no error messages or
anything else along the way. Just a Vista desktop. Is this normal for
Vista? Might I have some program hanging that Vista is having a hard time
shutting down, but not telling me? The only 3rd party programs I'm aware of
running all the time are Avast Antivirus and my Logitech Keyboard LCD
Monitor/Profiler.

Thoughts?

Check
Control Panel

advanced tools
The performance issues area (near top) should discuss what program is taking
so long to shutdown.

Wow, sweet! There's all kinds of useful info in there. Looks like the
culprit was pinpointed, too, but alas, it's from Creative so it has to do
with the sound card drivers, so I'm not quite sure there is much I can do
about it :-(

There is always the canard "update to latest drivers" hehe.
There is a lot of info available in the vista maintenance/accessories stuff.
However it doesn't seem to be organized along the same lines as my brain. I
am sure that in wandering around in that general area I found a report of
what files were currently open and which program has them in use, can't find
it again however.

Yep. I've got the same thing here. Slow shut downs. CTHelper (Creative)
is the culprit for me also, as expected. Creative has done a dismal job
along the way with their drivers. They're very slow about getting any new
drivers out, and then when they do, they're never very good.

Just went on Creative's website and they released new drivers for my sound
card today. Perhaps they'll affect your sound card as well.

Yeah, been trying to uninstall the old ones for quite awhile now tonight. I
don't trust to install the old ones over the new ones, so let's see if I can
actually get the old ones uninstalled - just taking a very long time......

I just installed the new drivers without uninstalling anything first and all
went well. However, I have not tried to put my computer into sleep, resume
from sleep, and try to shut down my computer yet. My shut down time is okay
unless I had my computer in sleep and then go to shut down later... That's
when mine gets really slow. The sidebar will disappear, then it'll just sit
there and idle for two minutes or so.

I've had VISTA BUSINESS for about 2 months now. Once I got all the bugs out
of it (after 2 weeks) it worked GREAT. Now this past week, I too, cannot shut
down. I think there is some problem with VISTA that NEEDS to be FIXED in the
updates. I also have Avast!

AHHHHHHH HAAAAAA, so CREATIVE seems to be the problem. Makes sense, as I just
downloaded the upgrade to Creative Easy Media 9 this week, then had the SHUT
DOWN issues. So I guess CREATIVE needs to fix the prob with updates?
