Did you ever think something could be wrong with the laptop? People I know
that have bought new laptops with Vista haven't had any problems.
It is not the laptop. I program in Delphi, and was not successful in
creating any application. I had various difficulties installing my
software. Also, I have heard from several users complaining about Vista.
Who needs this?!!

You're trying to program with Vista, you don't know how to program with the
O/S, and that is the bottom line. You are aware of the UAC manifest that a
program may need to use that you have written? You are aware of UAC period
that may be coming into play. You are aware of the Run As Administrator?

I program in .Net on Vista. I have no problems in doing just that while
using Vista, with MS Web, NT Service, Windows desktop or Console .Net
solutions.

If you don't know what you're doing with Vista programming wise, then you
don't know how to effectively program solutions that are going to run on
Vista.

I have had Home Premium on a new machine for a few days and it does appear to
be quite buggy. It's my feeling that it has just "got away" from microsoft,
and they just are trying to do too much now.

For a lot of people it looks like they may have more luck popping the
install disc for whatever app they have into the drive of a Mac and see if it
will work. It just took an hour for Vista to "verify" the install program of
a game I just downloaded from Fileplanet. During that time, although my
system resources appeared to be unused in taskmanager, I could barely open a
web browser on a Quad core, 2GB ram gaming machine.

Hopefully Vista is just a "Beta-test" for something that will actually work,
like Windows Me apparently was for XP. Either that, or I'll have to actually
give up building PCs and finally save up for a Mac Pro. Strangely, If I had a
system that actually worked without jumping through a bunch of hoops, would
it be as much "fun" ?

Putting toilet paper rolls on a spindle usually does work.
But thanks, many of us appreciate what you do.
