Vista Stop treating me like an idiot

J

jordanwb

I installed Vista onto my HP xw4100 last night. I like the graphics and most
of the features but there is one that I simply hate and I feel insulted
because of it.

You know what I'm talking about: User Account Control

On my computer I have Alcohol 120% installed, the reason for this is that a
couple of my PC games (Midtown Madness 1 & 2) are ran from old disks. So I
used Alcohol to make an image and emulate Safedisk. Everytime I want to play
any (and I mean any of my games, even ones I've made in C#), I get asked by
UAC whether or not I want it to run. I mean I clicked on it so yes I want it
to run you ^&%^&%! OS! And if I want to disable UAC (which I did) I get
another annoying message saying "UAC is not enabled! This is a security risk!"

Thank you for listening to my rant. (It's probably not the first, sory about
the expletive, I'm mad)

Be careful, Just FYI, there is a really-slow-person called kevpan815 here
who will probably try and talk you into using Ubuntu on your machine. Just
FYI.

Disable UAC and you should be normal again. Be carefull with all that
Alcohol. It can cause problems. Don't drive.

Just FYI

this is not a forum, this is a newsgroup. If you are reading this from a
forum, what is happening, is that particular site is
pulling the posts from the USENET and puting them into a forum.

Since this newsgroup is vista.general there is nothing to imply that it is
about support only. Saying vista stinks is quite ok and its true.

I guess its time for YOU to stop telling people what to say or not... ha!

Leaving aside the pedigree of the program you are trying to run and the
reality of the risk, the question UAC is asking is not " Do you
really want to do this ?", the question is " Was that you starting
this program or is some malicious software at work ?".

Well if that's really the case why don't they skip prompting
on processes spawned directly from explorer?

As opposed to processes spawned by another process.

you sure are an idiot. Putting Linux on the PC isn't the answer.
Putting Linux/Ubuntu on a PC is for playing around and not doing any real
work.

Ron, you obviously only have half a clue as to what you are
talking about. The name of this group is "microsoft public
windows vista general". Some people access that forum
directly and others such as myself, and apparently you,
access it through the usenet feed. So, depending upon how
you access it, you may see it as a 'forum' or as one of the
usenet groups.

The fact that you can not get Vista to work for you, and
therefore think others shouldn't use it, speaks poorly of
your knowledge and abilities. Others, such as yourself, that
constantly harangue people about how inadequate Vista is do
people with genuine questions, and a willingness to learn, a
dis-service. Probably 80 to 90 percent of this group is now
people like you getting into a pissing contest or feeding
poor or false information to others. As a result newbys have
a hard time finding answers to their questions among the
diatribes going on. It would be nice if the haranguers would
knock it off and offer only genuine help when they can. The
constant feed of negativities into this group is killing its
usefulness to people who have a need for it.
