Vista sp2 activation

J&P

Microsoft TechNet says that "No activation will be required for beta
installs".

I have installed Vista SP2 over non-activated Vista Ultimate and "Days
remaining for activation" are still listed and reducing daily.

Is there a patch, or similar, which will inform my Vista SP2 that it does
not require activation, or am I misreading the non-activation information?

Thanks for advice.

Yeah, you are. Vista Ultimate needs to be activated. Installing an
update - beta or otherwise - doesn't change that.

That would be "no activation" for the *service pack.*

Well, activate the underlying OS, and you'll be fine.

There's no patch, because there's nothing wrong, nothing to patch.
(Other than your reading comprehension, perhaps.)

Many thanks to all for your replies.

Yes, it was both silly and naive of me to think that I would get a "free"
OS, even for just a few months. I was taken in by the statement "No
activation for beta installs" for a service pack - I don't remember such
a statement for previous packs.

I certainly have no intention of possibly corrupting my present activated
system with a beta release.

Cheers
