Vista SP1

I understand that SP1 is just a beta, however thought I would post
this anyway. Trying to install SP1 and my machine has locked up
everytime. Running Vista Ultimate, closed everything except Norton
360, locks up same spot everytime. Anyone else having the same
issue? Very hard to troubleshoot at this point, so will most likely
wait until the production release, just thought maybe others out there
are having the same issue.

Thanks,
Chad

wonder why?

Vista..... join the crowd. Next time I will wait until the OS is out for
a year or two. I am not trying to trash Vista. Only...I am passing along
my experiences. Vista and ONECARE have given me more problems than any other
software ...since about 1980. Except for Norton.
We can not put the blame on Vista. There is a good chance many of us did
not follow through on the Vista Compatiple website information.
Check now...you may find more. MY SUGGESTION TO ANYONE.....IF YOUR
COMPUTER DOES NOT FULLY MEET THE COMPATIBLE TEST....STAY AWAY UNTIL YOU HAVE
A COMPUTER THAT HAS BEEN CERTIFIED AS 'vista compatible".
Software and hardware...printers...scanners...etc.... must be Vista
compatible.
That may cost more money.....that is part of the way business is
done...outdate it ...stop supporting it.... If not...you will have many,
many more problems. There are already enough bugs and fixes that have not
been made...in Vista...to cause anyone trouble. Ask anyone...have them list
and send you the "uodates" for an operating system...only what...one year
old. Even the updates cannot be installed.... There is no Vista support to
show you what the "error" is....only a long road to find it yourself.
Now.....$59.00 is the minimum charge for support if you purchased Vista over
90 days ago. What a way to treat consumers. The defects are not alwys you
or you computer... That is a long trail...leading consumers to continue to
have problems....if it is three months since the purchase date.

I have missed Windows XP..which many are unable to install on a computer
that has installed Vista. I have a diabetic management software ...for
instance...from Ultra II Lifescan. IT IS NOT VISTA COMPATIBLE. THEY HAVE
BEEN 'WORKING ON THAT SINCE VISTA WAS SOLD BY MS. THEY GET ANGRY IF YOU
KEEP ASKING WHEN WILL IT BE AVAILABLE..
ANY OPERATING SYSTEM THAT IS NOT BACKWARD COMPATIBLE....ALONG WITH THE "NEW"
FEATURES.....IS FRAUD. A GREAT BURDEN FOR ANYONE...ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO
HAVE BEEN USING MS ....FROM THE BEGINNING. WE HAVE EXPERIENCE THOSE
PROBLEMS.... WE EVEN BECOME "UNPAID" REPORTERS OF OS PROBLEMS AND BUGS. IF
I HAD ONE DOLLAR FOR EVERTIME I HAVE HAD TO WAIT...FOR SUPPORT...THE LONG
PROCESS OF UPDATING....THE ERRORS...RE-BOOTING.......WAITING.... I COULD OWN
STOCK IN MS. OR I COULD AFFORD THE VERY BEST COMPUTER. ALL I HAVE
SPENT....THROUGHT THE YEARS FOR MS...OTHER SOFTWARE AND
HARDWARE...PRINTERS..SCANNERS....ETC...MANY THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS FOR PRODUCTS
THAT NO LONGER ARE COMPATIBLE WITH VISTA. VISTA SHOULD BE COMPATIBLE WITH
THE CONSUMERS OF THEIR EARLIER PRODUCTS. THIS IS GOING TO CONTINUE. WE
NEED TO LEARN....TO LIVE WITH WHAT WE HAVE...THAT WORKS. XP TOOK SEVEN
YEARS TO GET TO WHERE IT AND ITS SUPPORT ARE IGNORED...AND THE CONSUMERS ARE
IGNORED.

AS LONG AS WE TRY TO HAVE THE LATEST...WE MUST BE READY AND WILLING TO HAVE
TO SPEND MANY THOUSAND MORE TO BE ABLE TO USE IT.
I HAVE A 1987 BUICK LESABRE....IT RUNS BETTER THAN MY NEW BUICK. IT HAS
BEEN PAID FOR AT LEAST 17 YEARS.... IT WORKS FOR ME...IT GETS ME THERE AND
GETS ME BACK. GM STILL SERVICES IT FOR ME TO CONTINUE TO USE. THE PEOPLE AT
MICROSOFT...MAKE MILLIONS...AND DENY THEIR CONSUMERS CONTINUED SUPPORT.
THE SP1.....IS THE FIRST OF MANY TO COME...AND THERE IS A VERY GOOD
CHANCE....A "NEW OS" WILL REPLACE IT...VERY SOON.

SO...WE EITHER LIVE WITH THE PROBLEMS AND THE EXPENSE AND THE TIME TO MAKE
IT WORK...AND SPEND THOUSANDS MORE......OR WE STAY WITH THE TRIED AND
TRUE.....OR WE TAKE A LOOK AT OTHER OPERATING SYSTEM. ONE WAY OR ANOTHER...WE
AR GOING TO HAVE TO MAKE MORE EXPENDITURES...
GATES HAS ESTABLISHED SUPPORT FOR CHARITY...AND SUCH... AT THE EXPENSE OF
THE MS CONSUMERS. NOW THAT HE IS NO LONGER 'ACTIVE AT MS"...WOULD IT NOT BE
NICE FOR HIM TO PUT SOME OF THOSE BILLIONS TO JUST MAINTAIN THAT WHICH WE
BOUGHT FROM HIM?

BUYER BEWARE...HAS NEVER MEANT MORE THAN IT DOES FOR
COMPUTERS...SOFTWARE...AND OPERATING SYSTEMS.

VISTA KEEPS ASKING TO INSTALL ....SEAGATE'S FREE AGENT....WHEN IT IS ALREAD
INSTALLED AND WORKING...AND AN HP THREE IN ONE...THAT IS WORKING...AND A
MAXTOR EXTERNAL DRIVE THAT IS WORKING.... I GET THAT OPTION TO
SEARSH...IGNORE...DON'T ASK AGAIN SCREEN FOR EACH OF THOSE EACH TIME I
RE-BOOT. IF I CHOOSE...DON'T ASK ME AGAIN...THE NEXT TIME I BOOT...THOSE
DO NOT OPERATE.... AND I HAVE TO GO THROUGH HOOPS TO GET THEM WORKING
AGAIN.....ONLY TO GET THE...TRYING TO INSTALL..WHICH STOPS EVERYTHING
ELSE..WHILE IT TRIES TO INSTALL...AN THEN IS UNABLE TO INSTALL.

THE EXPLAINATION IS...YOU MAY ALREADY HAVE A NEWER DRIVER INSTALLED. WHAT
KIND OF AN ANSWER IS THAT. VISTA CAN NOT RECGONISE THAT...OR WHAT? I
WONDER WHY/

Disable *everything* running that is not needed. Especially, things
like Norton or other security software.
Microsoft released a "Refresh" version for those experiencing
installation problems and those using BitLocker.

If that doesn't work download the full install and run it in
Safe Mode (F8).

I put up with the beta build (6001) for about 3 days. The only plus I saw
was that it finally recognized my 4 gigs of memory. I used their search
constantly and in the refresh "beta" version the search function had been
decreased - at least to my way of thinking. I also thought the boot time may
have been increased but the file copy function seemed fastder. Anyway, when
I tried to uninstall it, no way. System hung again and again. Finally I lost
patience with it and reinstalled my imaged version of Vista/U (activated).

Did you ever stop to think that when they say 'Shut down all programs
inlcuding Anit-Virus programs...' that the reason they are asking you todo
this is becuase otherwise you will have issues.

I don't usually bother to shut down my antivirus program because I've never
had a problem....at least I hadn't until I tried to install SP1.
(BitDefender, not Norton, in my case.) Anyway, right-clicking on the
BitDefender icon in the System Tray and exiting didn't do it. I had to got
to msconfig and uncheck everything pertaining to BitDefender in the Services
and Startup tabs. Then, all was good.
