VISTA SP! - Download From Windows Update

Here we go:

1.. I have an HP Pavilion desktop running Vista Home Premium - Works like a gem and downloaded and installed SP1 easy as anything and all is fine.
2.. I have an ACER laptop that I installed Vista Ultimate on and it does all the download updates as necessary and works well..
3.. However, it seems NOT to want to know about downloading and installing SP1 - I have auto update switched on but SP1 never seems to be in the list of updates
4.. SP1 does not show on the summary of laptop either...so I assume it has NOT downloaded and installed SP1
Any ideas why it does not want to know about SP1?

The laptop has 2GB of RAM and a 120GB hard disk and a 128MB video card.....

Cheers

Your Acer may have drivers installed which will conflict with SP1. Contact Acer to confirm this..

I have not personally installed ANY drivers during this installation.
It was a clean install on a reformatted C partition, using only the VISTA Ultimate DVD!

Any other options?

On this web site is a list of drivers known to conflict during the SP1 installation..

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948343

Look through the list and then check against drivers installed on your machine. If they are the same, go into BIOS and disable the relevant hardware device.

Try the SP1 install having done this, and if all goes well, go back into BIOS and re-instate the hardware device previously disabled..

I wish my problem had been so easily fixed - see "SP1 fails to install". I've
both tried "run"ning the SP1 file from the website or downloading and
executing it - but it still fails on my Compaq Presario 1879 (upgraded from
XP to Vista HP).
