Just bought a new dell with vista installed 2 wks ago. Auto update tells me
to download vista sp 1. It tells me size of download is 65 - 435 mb. I only
have dial up at home. I have t-1 line at work. How can I download (where is
link) at work to install at home? We do not use vista at work, when I go to
windows update at work, it doesn't understand vista request. I can put it on
a cd or flash card. thanks!

Check with the network admin at your job, the firewall may not let Vista
update through.

Alternatively, you can order a Vista SP1 disk from your OEM, or just
download the 435MB stand-alone installer to your flash card or burn it onto
a cd:

Ok, tried that. When asked to open or save, told to save on flash card.
Saved a 256kb file that is called "Windows6.0-KB936330-X86-wave0". When I
click on that, it gives me an error message "is not a valid Win32
application". I am trying to download on a machine running Windows 2000 sp
4. I tried the first link first. Not sure which vista I have, but think it
is first one because of file size updates tells me I need.

The file got corrupted during download. It should be 434,5MB, not 256KB.
Attempt to download it again, this time to a folder on the harddrive. From
there you move it to the flash memory after the download is complete. I
recommend you use a download manager (search the web, there are good free
ones) for files this large.

2000 sp 4.

This download does not require verification, so it does not matter what OS
you have on the downloading machine.

You can find this information in Control Panel > System and Maintenance >
System.
