Click Start > type Device Manager > right click system devices then click
on scan for hardware changes do it twice.

Have you tried uninstalling the audio driver under Device Manager, restart
the system, let it redetect it and the reinstall it?

Goto services start windows audio service. before that start "Windows Audio
Endpoint Builder" service. Windows service is dependent in "Windows Audio
Endpoint Builder"

Hello,
Not exactly sure when it started but sometime between Friday and
yesterday. I lost my sound. I've re-installed the drivers, system says they
are working properly but when you go turn up the sound it says no devices
installed. And there is an X next to the speaker on the system tray.

System : Dell XPS M2010
Audio : Sigmatel High Def Audio

Any Ideas

Maybe defective hardware then, I would suggest contacting Dell Support about
this issue.

Well tried all that still no good. Weird thing is it shows in device
manager as working but not when you try to go the the mixer and raise the
volume. No devices installed

Your speakers are definitely plugged in?

Yep, they are enternal speakers on the monitor. This is one of Dells XPS
M2010's

Also tried plugging in a headset

Unlikely that both the external speakers and a headset would
simultaneously go bad.

Have you checked Dell support online for downloads available for your
computer? Perhaps there is an updated version of the Sigmatel driver
available for you to try.

Problem solved. I had to boot off the CD and then do a restore.

Maybe you can tell me this problem tho. Why doesnt my dual monior setting
stay the way I put them. under the display setting I want the monitors to be
2 then 1 but I always have to change the setting everytime I reboot or take
it out of screen saver

Are you using a laptop? For most users, setting the second
monitor to the left simply doesn't work. There is something
that might work-

borrowed from Chirag;

Try disabling a task called TMM - Transient Multi-monitor Manager and see if
helps. Do the following:

1. Launch task scheduler - select "Start" | "All Programs" | "Accessories" |
"System Tools" | "Task Scheduler" menu item. (or, type "taskschd.msc" into
Start Menu's serach bar and press enter)

2. Locate and select a task with name "TMM" under "Task Scheduler Library" |
"Microsoft" | "Windows" > MobilePC

3. Click "Disable" from the list of actions listed at the right pane.

Reboot.

The dual monitor thing happened to my wife's Toshiba. To solve her problem,
I used the utility for the specific graphics card. In this case, she uses
the Radeon Utility. If you used Windows to set it, it seems to bump heads
with the Radeon software. I also went to the Radeon site (AMD) for the
latest utility and drivers and that, along with using the Radeon Utility,
worked : ).

Hope this helps.
