Vista-sending email

Mervyn

I have the following problem which cannot fix for a few weeks now and growing
increasingly frustrated:
Sending emails always generates the following message:
'some errors occurred while processing the requested tasks'. The message
then stays in the outbox and the contents of message are deleted. I then need
to delete the message which goes into the deleted items folder.
However, the email does actually get sent which I've verified by i) checking
on send server of gmail and ii) sending/blind copying myself which comes into
Windows mail inbox in the normal way.
I would greatly welcome advice on how to remove the error message such that
outbox messages automatically go to the sent folder rather than generating
the error message and the message contents completely disappearing.
The only workaround is to bcc myself on outgoing mail so that I have a
record of what I have sent from WM which then appears in the inbox with the
text intact.
As background, I have installed the Vista and WMutil patch and run all the
checks and tabs to no avail. I have had AVG anti-virus installed for over 1
year. The problem manifests itself consistently in different countries and
for both ADSL and wireless so i've discounted this as an ISP issue.
Any support/advice gratefully received. Thanks.

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no protection not provided by the regular
resident protection.

I had the same problem on a customers machine it seemed the outbox file was
corrupted. The only solution I found was to rename the mail folder. Start
"Windows mail" it then creates the mail folder again. I then imported all
folders except the "Outbox" from the renamed folder. He has not had a
problem since.

Even AVG antivirus can corrupt mail accounts if it was installed using the
default install option. Uninstall AVG, then reinstall it, but choose custom
install. This enables you to unselect installation of the mail scanning
module. That mail scanning module causes problems with Windows Mail.
Also, delete that corrupted account, restart Windows Mail, then recreate
the account.

Thank you very much for all the replies. I have reinstalled AVG and turned
the email scrolling off but to no avail. I'd like to try Dave's suggestion
below but could you please give me a step by step guide. I could not rename
'outbox' - seems fixed unlike other names of folders. So I'm still stuck.
Thanks for any support on listing the sequence.

I presume he meant by using Windows Explorer to navigate through
the file system to
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail\Local Folders\Outbox.

You will need to have your Folder Options configured to display hidden files.

Gary, Thank you. Tried this but still doesn't work. Perhaps I'm not following
the right steps in sequence. Could you provide the exact steps perhaps in IE7
or is there an opportunity to phone and talk through?

Hi
Make sure Windows mail is not running, maybe restart the computer then do
the following.
1. Go to "C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail" and rename
the" Local Folders" to "_Local Folders"
2. Start Windows mail. This will recreate the "Local Folders"
3. Go To File -> Import -> Messages
4. Select Windows Mail 7 click next
5. Click Browse and navigate to
"C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail\_Local Folders" and
Click Select
6. Mark "Selected Folders"
7. Select the folders you wish to Import, do not select the OUTBOX, Push and
hold the CTRL key to select more than one folder.
8. Click next "Wait and hope"

Sorry, I don't do phone or email support.
IE7 is not involved in this at all. Windows Explorer is the file manager
that has been included with every version of Windows since day one.
You can access it by clicking Start, Computer, then drill down starting
with the C: drive.

It might be better to have a computer-savvy friend walk you through this.

Dave, Thanks - keen to try this. However I get as far as windows mail but
'local folders' do not exist in this directory even though I have lots of
local folders in WM.
Any suggestions?

In Windows Explorer press Alt-T | Folder Options | View. Select Show hidden
files and folders and uncheck the option to Hide protected system files.
