Like you would remove anything in XP. Use the compat report that you get
before the upgrade starts. While still in XP remove programs like antivirus
and antispyware programs and anything that is incompatible according to the
report. Find upgrades where the report notes that upgrades are needed or
remove if you cannot find such an upgrade. Go through the report and
prepare the system for upgrade. Then reboot and when Windows is back up
insert the Vista dvd again and start your upgrade.
But you are careful about what apps you allow on your computers. For most
it appears to be garbage in, garbage out.
