Vista reinstall

D

David

Hi,

I intend to install a larger HD on my laptop. After reinstalling Vista Home
Premium, will I be able to activate it online as before, or will a phone
call be necessary? If the latter, why? XP allowed several reinstalls with
online activation before the activation needed to be done by phone. Thanks.

You will have to do the phone activation. But, it only takes about 5
minutes. It is the worst part of Vista for me, and I hope they go a little
more lax on it next release. They only allow one install before requiring
phone activation. It really sucks...

Its just the changes made to Activation in the 2.0 release, its not
difficult though just to make a simple call and get the product reactivated.
Because Microsoft wants to reduce piracy as much as possible, they have
instituted this policy of reactivating the software everytime major hardware
changes are made.

And, again, MS' paying customers are forced to be cops each and every
time they want to use what they paid for. The pathetic thing is that it
doesn't stop the crackers one iota. ALL it does is inconvenience paying
customers and does NOTHING to stop piracy. This activation scam -- which
leads many to think they have to buy Vista again -- is what will kill
Windows.

Pardon my ignorance, but is that necessary? When I upgraded my laptop
drive from 40gb to 120gb I simply backed the partitions up to an external
hard drive, swapped drives and restored to the new one.

I installed an OEM Vista Home premium on a home built machine ten months
ago. Because I love to fiddle I have reinstalled it clean a grand total of
seven times since. Every single time it has activated over the internet
without hesitation. It's quicker than updating the antivirus software. Dunno
what all the fuss is about frankly, but I sure got to stop fiddling so much
(grin)

Just my 2 cents.
