Vista Reboot

P

Piet

I have my Vista Ultimate installed for about 8 months, but now all of a
sudden it reboots all the time when I want to switch off. I get all the
updates on time. Maybe one of the latest updates changed something ?

Can anybody please help ?

Probably there is an underlying faulty driver but you are not getting a chance to see what is causing the problem. Vista (like XP before it) is set to automatically reboot on major errors.

To turn off this behavior:

1. Click on Start
2. Right click on "Computer" and select "Properties" from the context menu
3. On the System properties Dialogue Box Select the "Advanced" tab and then the "Settings" button in the "Startup and Recovery" section.
4. You should now see a box with a section marked "System Failure". Uncheck the box marked "Automatically Restart". Leave the "Write Event to System Log" checked.

If you want to see what caused the shutdown

1. Click on Start
2. Click on Control Panel
3. Select "System and Maintenance"
4. Find "Administrative Tools" (Scroll to the bottom of the list) and under that section click on "View Event Logs"

Hope this helps.
