Vista RC1 install hangs during first boot

I'm trying to create a dual boot system with XP and Vista RC1. An 80GB HD was
added to the system for Vista. After entering the product key and selecting
the partition where Vista should be installed, the installer starts with
'Copying Files...' and 'Expanding Files...'. A few percent into the
'Expanding Files...', the system re-boots. At some point in the boot the
vertical green bars moving from left to right appear. Then suddenly the
system freezes and requires a reset.
I've tried installing from physical DVD and virtual DVD. Also removed the XP
HD and tried to boot/install from DVD. Same results.
The Upgrade Advisor did not detect any problem with the system.

Has anyone had the same problem and find a solution?

Thanks, Han

Me three! I got Vista installed on my laptop but not on my desktop. Dell XPS
400 with Dual Core and 2GB of RAM. nVidia GeForce 6800 graphics card. I've
been all over the web and have not identified my specific problem yet.

I had to do that with RC1 as well. It cleared up in RC2 and rtm. I had to
remove the dvd, give it a three finger salute, and then Setup would boot the
correct entry in the boot options and pick up where it left off. It did not
affect the quality of the installation.

Unfortunately I went through most of the installation and was almost done
when, on the last reboot, I got a 0x000000F4 STOP error. When I tried safe
mode it hung on whatever comes after crcdisk.sys. Now I'm on the trail for a
solution to that!
