Vista RC1 (5600) Javascript don't work

Problem:
Javascript in general does not work anymore (gadgets, in browser (check
http://www.w3schools.com/js/tryit.asp?filename=tryjs_text) and in
applications).

Actions taken:
I tried to install windows scripting host 5.6 but this does not apply to
Vista.
Then I thought reinstalling the .Net framework 3.0 but reinstall isn't
possible. I can only flick on three general options regarding framework
(under Turn features on or off in software in control panel, default on is
PDX viewer). I downloaded the uninstall framework utility but this can't find
anything to uninstall.

Question:
Is there some registry key or a dll or something I can install/ check to
make it work again?
Don't want to install Vista again since all other things work ok.

The path to destruction:
***
I don't know if this is related but this is when the trouble started. It was
a a dark and rainy day LOL ;) I wanted to update McAfee but due to UAC
restrictions I couldn't download the updates since I was no administrator (or
else it said so). So I looked it up, turned on Administrator account in
secpol.msc, logged in as Administrator (I didn't know I could turn off UAC in
software). Then I believe it all went Foobar but it can also be earlier by
the installment of McAfee.

Also a sidenote, I have two partitions, one containing windows xp and on the
other Vista. On windows XP the same happened but installing the windows
scripting host fixed that problem, I need something simular for Vista.

Always curious why things happen all of an sudden but more anxious to get it
fixed.

Greet Peetzer and best wishes to all

and what the HELL does "works a treat" mean?!?!?
LOL

Before installing Sun Java I was unable to run Java Apps and Scripting Tools
within IE7/Vista, after installing it I have full java functionality. Thanks
for asking though and I hope that helps the OP.

fyi that makes no sense at all. not having java installed does NOTHING to
stop the windows scripting engines from running javaSCRIPT in the browser.
theyre 2 completely different technologies, they just share the word "java"

Might you have inadvertently disabled JavaScript...?

Edit the HTML in the above site as follows:

<html>
<body>

<script type="text/javascript">
document.write("Hello World!")
</script>
<noscript>
JavaScript is disabled
</noscript>
</body>
</html>

Does that change things...?

What does Java have to do with JavaScript...?

Don't know, you tell me, you're the expert quite obviously ?

Above page didn't work for me with OOTB vista/IE7, after installing the Sun
Java engine - Java'ry things started working.
Go figure, it worked for me, so I'm happy.

heres what he did....
for one reason or another a java applet wasnt being displayed on a page. so
he tinkered in the IE settings, saw the word JAVAscript and checked,
unchecked, played here and there. eventually he installed a JVM, the applet
worked, and probably during his playing he "fixed" javascript having
previously "broke" it himself

Errr.... close, top posting buddies, but no, I did exactly what I did
mentioned in my earlier postings.
So don't make assumptions.
I didn't touch any adv props under IE.
It was a clean RTM install.
So before you start chuckling to much between yourselves, and stoking each
others petite egos, get the facts straight.
