I am having a heck of a time trying to get Tune-up Styler2 themes to stay
when I reboot my computer. I know I should work because it did before I have
my computer sent back to HP for warranty repairs... now with the clean
install the themes don't work.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

What version of Vista are you running, and what version of Tune-Up
Utilities? Also, are you running the application with administrative
privileges? IIRC you need to have the 'no gui' boot option activated in
system config, so check for that too. Generally TU does that on it's own,
but it's possible something may be preventing the application from changing
the settings - either a permission, setting, or interference from another
app.

Hi, thanks for the quick response...
I am running Vista Home Premium and Tune-up 2008, both have all the latest
updates.
I am booting in "no gui" and I did run Tune-up as admin.

What I have noticed is when I run Styler2 and load a theme, I go to the
Appearance Settings in Appearance Properties and the theme will be in the
list (shows as Vista Basic, and has 5 or 6 of them, it showed these before
when it worked properly.) Then when I reboot, all the "vista basic" list as
gone except for the default one.

Vista does not keep the new boot screen or login screens that I changed with
Tune-up as well.
Actually Vista doesn't seem to keep many of my settings... window
placements, window sizes (not all but many), thumbnail sizes (not all but
many). My HP Ipaq 2490 doesn't sync with Outlook 2007 Ent.. and my Bluetooth
Dong works whenever it wants too (starts for 5 mins then won't for a day,
then will again)...strange!

I know that Tune-up should work because it did before. I had an issue with
my laptop and sent it back to HP for warranty repair. When I got it back it
was reformed so I had to reinstall everything. Since then the issue has
started.

Again,
Thank you very much for your help.

Does the registry cleaner function work? Also, check your startup program
list and services. Filter out the Microsoft defaults, and look for
unfamiliar entries in the lists. There may be a script or program running,
either explicitly or as a response from the system to change the settings
back as a failsafe. For this same reason I advise you to check the
Administrative View in Event Viewer (Look in Admin Tools) and check for
indications of when and where the change took place. This enables you to
pinpoint why it happened when it happened, and not elsewhere. If the
registry cleaner doesn't work, that means your registry permissions may not
be in the right shape, and likely modify and write permissions are also
wrong.

Good luck, I hope my suggestions help.

Problem solved!!
I just reinstalled Tune-up and whalha..it works now!

I did find and issue from looking at the services like you suggested and
found some strange programme running. I googled it and found it to be
spyware, this was slowing down my computer big-time. I disabled it then did
the uninstall as suggested and now my computer seems twice as fast...

Thank you very much for your input. Without it I probably wouldn't have
found the spyware, Ad-aware, Avast pro and spybot didn't find it so I didn't
know it was there.

again, thank you
