Vista Premium backup

I tried the Vista Premium backup wizard but was unhappy with the result. My
old backups on Xp gave exactly the same file structure and descriptions on
the external hard drive back up as were on the original PC. On Vista this
didn't happen and I couldn't understand the myriad files the backup offered.
I deleted the lot and did a copy for safety and that looks fine, except that
doing the next one seems to copy the whole disk again, not just files that
are added or updated.
How can I get a simple file back up that gives me a folder/file view on the
external disk the same as on my PC

Acronis True Image does imaging and incremental backups -

Second Copy does backups (no imaging) - http://www.centered.com

Yosemitegate - Premium only provides for file backup and not a complete PC
backup as does, say, the Ultimate version.

The files are backed up as Zip files and after the intial backup, by default
subsequent backups are incremental. Backups can be performed on a
schedule - keerp in mind that if your do not indicate or make a selection of
which files to be backup - the utility on a subsequent scheduled backup will
use the "default file type listing" which can result in a large backup.

I use Complete PC Backup on several Vista computers, however I also use
Acronis and per Malke's recommendation give it consideration - it provides
great capability!!!
